This is a one hour blues specialty show that runs on Monday nights from 9 PM to 10 PM on WXRT, Chicago.

  • ROLL ‘EM PETE – BIG JOE TURNER
    This song was recorded in New York City in 1938 by Big Joe and his longtime collaborator, boogie woogie piano player Pete Johnson. This is considered to be one of the earliest recorded example of a song with a back beat.
  • LITTLE WILLIE – OTIS TAYLOR
    This track is from a new album to be released tomorrow (Tuesday). Otis will be a part of our XRT Blues Breakers Blues Fest Broadcast Live from Legends (13th annual) at Buddy Guy’s Legends, June 10th.
  • CATFISH BLUES – DAVID HONEYBOY EDWARDS
    The Randolph Café of the Chicago Cultural Center at 78 E. Washington, Downtown, will be presenting a free performance by Honeyboy tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12:15. This song is from his 2001 album, Mississippi Delta Bluesman.
  • HOLLYWOOD BED – BIG JOE TURNER
    A 1947 recording.
  • THAT’S WHAT KEEPS ME ROCKIN – ROBERT CRAY
    From Robert’s current record, This Time.
  • OH WHAT A FEELING – SOLOMON BURKE
    This is from a new album by The King of Rock and Soul, Nothing’s Impossible, produced by the late, legendary Memphis record producer, Willie Mitchell.
  • BRAND NEW BLUES – CYRIL NEVILLE
    This is the title track of the latest album by this Neville brother.
  • SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL – BIG JOE TURNER
    With lyrics that were pretty rough and raw for the times, this was a big hit for Big Joe right at the dawn of Rock and Roll in 1954, later covered by Bill Haley and the Comets who had an even bigger hit with it.
  • SHE’S SO FINE – NICK MOSS AND THE FLIP TOPS
    From Nick’s current record, Priviledged.
  • FLIP, FLOP AND FLY – BIG JOE TURNER
    This is a 1955 follow-up to Shake, Rattle and Roll.
  • EYES LIKE A CAT – JOE LOUIS WALKER
    From Joe’s latest, Between a Rock and a Hard Place.
