The 93XRT/CBS 2 Even Better than Rolling Stone’s List of Greatest Songs of All-Time

Filed Under:

rs 3851 The 93XRT/CBS 2 Even Better than Rolling Stones List of Greatest Songs of All TimeWith Rolling Stone magazine issuing their latest “definitive list” of the 500 greatest songs of all-time, we thought it would be interesting to see how that might contrast with the choices of XRT listeners and CBS 2 viewers. No question that Rolling Stone has some of rock’s best known, most respected (and most reviled) critics, but we feel Chicago has some of the world’s most passionate music fans, so let’s see what you think!

Give us your top five songs of all time, and we’ll share the results on our websites and on the air!

I’ve listened to XRT since year 1 and the music has been with me thru my life with so many memorable songs thru both good times and bad. Pretty hard to choose just 5 so I might just have to vote again. Keep going strong XRT… Chicago’s Finest ROCK!

    June 10, 2010 1:17 pm

Pamela, I also be listening to XRT since start up in 1972. Our auot shop teacher in high school brought in a stereo recevier and large speaks into the shop , hooked everything up and said to al the kids ” welcome to FM stereo and XRT”. He craked it open and out came Vodoo Child by Hendrix and I was hooked. Been a xrt listener ever since then. But your right, I have a hard time picking a top five. It depends on my mood , friends that I’m with and what I’m doing.

It’ll be an interesting end result since unlike most surveys of this type you can only vote once and there are quite a few songs I see in these comments that WXRT doesn’t play (or has rarely played) but it would be great if they did. My list included The Bad Examples’ “Not Dead Yet” (which they do still play) and Kirsty MacColl’s “A New England” and Colin Blunstone’s “I Don’t Believe In Miracles” (both of which they don’t but maybe did once upon a time). And it’s always pretty hard to narrow down which Kinks songs to include.

After looking at all of these lists I’ve come to the conclusion that there are thousands upon thousands of songs that I’ve enjoyed over the years. I have a great many of the songs listed here on albums, cassette tapes and CD’s.

Here are a few eclectic choices that have also played a big part in the history of ROCK.

21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson
Paranoid by Black Sabbath
The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys by Traffic
Too Rolling Stoned by Robin Trower
Money by Pink Floyd
Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics

OOPS, forgive me – that’s six!! But I’m sure I could go on and on and on, etc.
