While most of Chicago was celebrating a Labor Day weekend, 4000 music fans were in beautiful downtown Uptown enjoying Vampire Weekend at The Aragon Ballroom. It was the band’s biggest XRT Show yet and the young Columbia University alums handled the larger venue like the pros they’re becoming. They got right into the spirit of things by kicking of the show off with “Holiday” and from that point on the Aragon crowd was a unified pulsing mass. VW has an incredibly enthusiastic following who jump and sing to pretty much every song.
XRT Show: Vampire Weekend At…The band ripped through all the fan favorites from their debut as well as this year’s “Contra”. They even dropped a Springsteen cover, (“Going Down”) into the set. Just like their previous shows at The Riv, the biggest cheers and fist pumping were for “A-Punk” and “Horchata”.
XRT Show With Beach HouseThe band seems to have as much fun as the audience and that helps to make a Vampire Weekend Show a celebration even when it’s not a holiday. Baltimore duo, Beach House opened the show and on stage they’re now a quartet. Their atmospheric songs led by the stunning voice of singer Victoria Le Grand benefitted from the expanded line-up as they filled the Aragon with their beautiful sound. Victoria, who usually is almost hidden in the shadows on stage, even became animated, jumping up and down during “Zebra”. The VW influence must be contagious.
