Jackson Browne

[photogallerylink id=35071 align=left] [lastfm]Jackson Browne[/latfm] was once called by Rolling Stone magazine the master of metaphysical boogie and that’s a pretty good description of his mini epic poem songs about the human condition that often went 6 or 7 minutes on his albums of the 70s and early 80s. We’ve got an excellent late 80s performance from Jackson before a partisan crown in California on this week’s XRT Sunday Night Concert. Jackson Browne’s songs have been covered by many artists over the years, here’s a few to start with:

  1. “These Days” by [lastfm]Nico[/lastfm]. From the debut by the [lastfm]Velvet Underground[/lastfm]/AndyWarhol chanteuse. Don’t listen while depressed. Also covered by [lastfm]Greg Allman[/lastfm] on his solo debut and by [lastfm]Paul Westerberg[/lastfm] during a live interview on WXRT.
  2. “Take It Easy” by the [lastfm]Eagles. [lastfm]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm] introduced Jackson into the rock and roll hall of fame saying you wrote the songs the Eagles wished they had written.
  3. “Jamacia Say You Will” by the [lastfm]Byrds[/lastfm]. It’s like Negril with a twelve-string!
  4. “Rock Me On the Water” by [lastfm]Linda Ronstadt[/lastfm].
