Get ready for a new collaboration between the leading members and principle songwriters of three rising indie rock acts. The group is composed of [lastfm]Dawes[/lastfm]’ Taylor Goldsmith, [lastfm]Deer Tick[/lastfm]’s John McCauley, and [lastfm]Delta Spirit[/lastfm]’s Matthew Vasquez. [lastfm]Middle Brother[/lastfm] played their first show at 2010’s SXSW. Their second show took place last month, on December 20, at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, as part of a benefit for Invisible Children.

Initially, the group started as a collaboration between McCauley and Goldsmtih, who got the idea to record together when Dawes was opening for Deer Tick in the summer of 2009. Goldsmith decided to invite his friend, Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit, to come along with him and McCauley to a recording session in Nashville last January where they ended up writing enough material for a full album. A couple months later the group debuted as MG & V (the trio’s initials) at SXSW in Austin in March.

After their show at SXSW, the group temporarily put aside the project to focus on their own respective bands. However, they have set March, 1 2011 as a release date for their album and are also planning on touring in the spring. You can check out a video of their performance at SXSW above.
