Strokes Reveal Track Listing & Name For Upcoming Fourth LP

The Strokes have revealed the track listing for their fourth album, and gave it a name too. The new LP, Angles, was recorded at guitarist Albert Hammond Jr.‘s house in upstate New York. Interestingly, The Stroke‘s frontman Julian Casablancas was not in the room (or the house for that matter) with the rest of the band for the recording and song writing. Bassist Nikolai Fraiture explained this recording process in an interview with SPIN, “We wrote and rehearsed together as the four of us.. Then we’d send the track over to Julian. There was a lot of back and forth. I don’t know if Julian had trouble being with us — I don’t know what was going through his mind. There were tensions. But it worked.”
The band is set to hit the road this spring in support of Angles, and they’re confident that when all 5 members are together, they’ll be able to function amicably. “Everything is great between us now that the album is done,” Nikolai Fraiture told SPIN, “That’s the hardest part — seeing beyond the daily quibbles to focus on the main goal.”
The long-distance song writing was not the only unique facet of how The Strokes recorded Angles. It was the first time that all five members of the group contributed to the writing and development of the songs. “We listened to everyone’s ideas with open ears and came to collective decisions. Everyone had an opinion” Fraiture said in SPIN. The band also experimented with new production techniques they have previously not explored, such as the use of MIDI electronic samples and vocal layering.
Angles is set to be released on March 22nd, and according to The Strokes‘ website they will be releasing the first single from the album, “Under Cover of Darkness,” soon. Check out the entire track listing below.
