This place is the beat of my heart.

“It’s a very quiet and very meditative song dedicated to New Orleans,” Stipe said about this new one from R.E.M.‘s forthcoming album, Collapse Into Now. The band just announced a free download of the track “Oh My Heart,” but only for a limited time.

Jacknife [Lee] is great as a producer, because he saw that we were struggling with what is a very quiet song. We were standing really far away from each other in the room, and it was hard not only to actually physically hear each other, but it felt dispersed. He brought us into the middle, and instantly, of course, the song worked.” – Michael Stipe

Just thanking Father God for blessing REM to make music, as I feel that some music is God-breathed.

This song is music to the heart of a loving soul. Very moving; very inspiring…………………. Very real. Thank you.

Although they say the song is about New Orleans, R.E.M also lent this song to the University of Georgia for their game-day TV spot. It seems the powerful feelings behind the lyrics may also apply to Athens, Georgia where the band members met and formed R.E.M back in the day. See it here:
