[photogallerylink id=54170 align=left]Brooklyn’s [lastfm]The National[/lastfm] will be contributing a song to Paul Giamatti’s upcoming film Win-Win. Frontman, Matt Berninger says he wrote the song, “Think You Can Wait”, after watching the film and becoming inspired by director Tom McCarthy’s themes of “very normal and good people trying to do their best and the struggle to be good.” The song, which will be heard over the credits, was produced by Boxer co-producer Peter Katis in a Brooklyn studio and features guest vocals by singer-songwriter [lastfm]Sharon Van Etten[/lastfm].

The National – “Think You Can Wait”

The track has been described as “gorgeous and brooding” and was produced by Boxer co-producer Peter Katis in a Brooklyn studio and features guest vocals by Brooklyn singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten. “This was the first time we had written specifically for a film,” Berninger said. “We wouldn’t normally do that, but Tom McCarthy’s movies are so good. Watching [‘Win Win’] helped inspire the way the song was written. I mean, it isn’t at all narrative to what happens in the movie — we don’t mention Paul Giamatti by name or anything. But it was fun, and it’s a good song, we’re very proud of it.”
Win-Win is the story of a lawyer and part-time high school wrestling coach who takes a special interest in a talented but troubled young wrestler. The film falls into the “dramedy” category and calls for a song with the energy The National in known for: sombre and slow.
