[photogallerylink id=58018 align=left]Some of the biggest rock and pop stars are preparing music and concert fundraisers to help Japan recover from this month’s devastating earthquake and tsunami.

Universal Music plans to rush out a digital compilation by the end of the week, with songs contributed by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]U2[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bieber[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rihanna[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nicki Minaj[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bon Jovi[/lastfm].  Proceeds will go the Japanese Red Cross. Universal artist [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] may also sign on, and she’s already selling special rubber wrist bands to her little monsters who want to support relief efforts.

Liam Gallagher’s new band, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beady Eye[/lastfm], will play a concert in London next month to benefit the British Red Cross and its Japanese relief efforts. Other acts include [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paul Weller [/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Primal Scream[/lastfm]. Liam writes on the band’s website that he still has fond memories of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Oasis[/lastfm] playing Sendai in 2002. Sendai is one of the Japanese towns all but wiped out by the disaster.

And last weekend’s South by Southwest featured a charity tele- and web-a-thon supported by Hanson and Michael Stipe, among many others.

You don’t have to fly to Austin or London to make your contribution, of course. The American Red Cross is taking donations right now.
