R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Yo La Tengo To Honor Alex Chilton In Big Star Third Tribute

Photos: R.E.M. R.E.M.‘s Michael Stipe will join other all-stars at Baruch College in NYC this Saturday night for a tribute to the late Alex Chilton from Big Star. Stipe will be joined by his bandmate Mike Mills, as well as Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub, Matthew Sweet, Ira Kaplan from Yo La Tengo, Mitch Easter from Let’s Active, and Big Star’s Jody Stephens.

Stipe will cover “Kenga Roo” among other songs and all of the proceeds from the concert will go to three music charities.

The line up of the songs to be preformed are:

Charities include Corona Youth Music Project, Queens, NY and KidZNotes; the El Sistema program in Durham, NC; and the New Orleans Musicians Clinic.
