192 The National Plans Grateful Dead Covers Record[pullquote quote=”We’re thinking a Phil Lesh song, ‘Box of Rain’ or ‘Unbroken Chain’ … something like that.” credit=”Bassist, Scott Devendorf”]In town for three Sold-Out XRT Shows this weekend with [lastfm]Arcade Fire[/lastfm], [lastfm]The National[/lastfm] has been top of mind. A few years back, [lastfm]The National[/lastfm] worked on Dark Was the Night a two-disc compilation featuring many indie heavyweights, such this weekend’s headliners, Arcade Fire. Scott Devendorf, National bassist, told Spinner this past weekend that the band is working on a follow-up album. This album however will be a tribute to the Grateful Dead.

[photogallerylink id=16262 align=left]Devendorf said half the album will be reinterpreting it because there are so many cover bands, he also noted “we are also trying to think of unusual acts.” The album is in the early stages and can be expected out in a year or two. “We’re actually working on a new compilation record, like we did the ‘Dark was The Night’ record, that’s going to be a [lastfm]Grateful Dead[/lastfm] covers record,” bassist Scott Devendorf told Spinner at Coachella.
