This year has 8 stages and over 120 bands including Coldplay, Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, Eminem, Muse, Bright Eyes, Arctic Monkeys, Big Audio Dynamite, and many more.


Coldplay

Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends was voted the Best Album in the 2008 XRT Listener Poll. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Chris Martin said that Coldplay‘s upcoming fifth album is about “love, addiction, OCD, escape and working for someone you don’t like.” However he also added that the new album will have “a lot of uplifting stuff.” [Free Album Download]



Foo Fighters

Just when you thought you heard everything new that Foo Fighters have to offer, after releasing their new album, Wasting Light this month, playing a special two hour Live on Letterman performance and releasing a documentary about the band, they have more.



Eminem

Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972) learned his trade while growing up in Detroit, United States, and quickly gained popularity in 1999 with his major-label album, The Slim Shady LP, which won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. The following album, The Marshall Mathers LP, became the fastest-selling solo album in the United States history.



My Morning Jacket

To celebrate the forthcoming album Circuital, My Morning Jacket is giving away the seven-minute title track for FREE!



Muse

These British rockers Muse took home a GRAMMY for Best Rock Album for the group’s 2010 album The Resistance.



Bright Eyes

The band’s latest album, The People’s Key, hit store shelves on Conor Oberst’s 31st birthday, but the singer-songwriter’s main musical outlet began over a decade earlier.



Arctic Monkeys

“Brick By Brick” is taken from Arctic Monkeys‘ forthcoming album, Suck It And See is due sometime this summer and will be their first new disc since Humbug in 2009. [Download]



Big Audio Dynamite

After 22 years, Big Audio Dynamite reassembled in Liverpool and ripped through a 13 song set full of fan favorites.  Mick Jones joined up with his post-Clash band for the opening night gig of a nine-date European tour which will be followed up by a small helping of US dates including a stop at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival earlier this year.



Cage The Elephant

With a new disc, Thank You Happy Birthday, Cage the Elephant perform with a firm, powerful shakedown of grunge-infused rock ‘n roll awesomeness. [Download]



Ok Go

The YouTube sensations’ “This Too Shall Not Pass,” is the standout hit from OK Go‘s latest effort Of the Blue Colour of the Sky [Download] .



Cold War Kids

Cold War Kids are an indie rock band from Fullerton, California, USA. Band members are Nathan Willett (lead vocals, piano, guitar), Jonnie Russell (guitar, vocals, percussion), Matt Maust (bass guitar) and Matt Aveiro (drums).



Fitz & The Tantrums

Frontman Michael Fitzpatrick describes the group’s sound as “soul-influenced indie pop” and “MoneyGrabber” from their new album, Pickin’ Up The Pieces, is as catchy and infectious as anything they’ve ever done. [Download]

Two Door Cinema Club

These Northern Irish rockers, who recently signed to their French record label burst on the scene with their jangly debut album Tourist History and played a sweet show at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall.



Delta Spirit

Part of the Middle Brother combo (frontmen from Dawes, Deer Tick and Delta Spirit).



Local Natives

If you’re a regular listener of XRT’s The Big Beat, or attended Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival this past summer, you’re most likely familiar with this group. L.A.’s Local Natives have been compared to several of their contemporary indie comrades – such as Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend.



Sleigh Bells

One of the most anticipated performances of last year’s Pitchfork Music Festuval came from Derek and Alexis of Sleigh Bells. They talked with XRT’s Marty Lennartz back in our broadcast tent.



Ryan Bingham

A little over two years ago, Lin Brehmer was sipping a Guinness in the back of Schuba’s waiting for Dan Navarro to come on.  There’s an opening act.  A guy in a cowboy hat.  A guy with a voice that belies his youth.   His name is Ryan Bingham.



Foster The People

Mark Foster, Mark Pontius and Cubbie Fink are Foster The People, and they’ve been humbled. These three musicians are blown away that they’ve made it from the local to the big leagues at a sprint-like pace. Why? It must be the music. And, a rabid fan base probably helps too.



Best Coast

Bethany Cosentino is the he singer/songwriter/leader of the 60-s influenced LA band Best Coast and boasts the new album, “Crazy For You”.



LIssie

Lissie has toured with artists like Lenny Kravitz and Ray LaMontagne. She released her first full length album Catching a Tiger last August and has finally been getting some national attention and is now offering up a live version of her song “In Sleep” as a [Free Download].

Lollapalooza turns 20 this summer in Chicago’s Grant Park and XRT has been the official festival station during the first three years 1991 and the past six years since it has declared Chicago its home. Wow…I have wanted to go to Lollapalooza for years living right in the River West Area but being a mom could never manage it. Well the kids are old enough and this year I may just take them along or what the heck me and my husband will go and enjoy it ourselves….WHAT A LINE-UP FANTASTIC…can not wait
