cb 125211 Video: Arcade Fire Is BurningSome staunch [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Arcade Fire[/lastfm] fans were disappointed with The Suburbs, thinking it was too accessible and commercial and, well , just too popular. Let’s remember: Abbey Road and Nevermind were also well-received by the masses. In any event, there was nothing but love and devotion and surrender last night at the UIC Pavilion for the third and final sold-out XRT show.

The show opened with a brief clip of a cheap youth riot in the suburbs film clip, followed by the one-two punch of XRT Listener Poll favorite tracks “Ready To Start” and “Keep the Car Running” and leader Win Butler’s statement that the band was going to leave it all on the stage tonight. He was not fooling around. What followed was an amazing blend of singing, chanting, multi-instrumental prowess, dancing, strobe lights and just the right hint of disturbing German Expressionism. A tour de force. The one miscue came when Butler said he was happy the Bulls lost so he could attend the game tonight. (He was raised in Texas.)

[lastfm]The National[/lastfm] opened, but they turned in a headliner level performance that had the crowd begging for more. Hey, follow me on Twitter now @XRTFrankELee!
