Lollapalooza has announced their lineup for this Summer’s three-day festival in the Windy City, and it’s a doozy!  In addition to headliners like Bob Marley’s son Damian, Coldplay, and My Morning Jacket, Ric Ocasek will be performing a set with the newly reformed Cars at the 20th anniversary of the festival!

“I wish I was 20, but unfortunately it’s my festival that’s 20,” says Perry Farrell, Lollapalooza founder and singer for 80-s group Jane’s Addiction.  The festival began in 1991 as a farewell tour for his band, however it’s become a Chicago institution 20 years later, and it’s only appropriate that the impossibly reunited Cars will perform at Lollapalooza’s milestone anniversary.  The two singles from The Cars’ new album are a marriage of the old with the new, using the same guitars and synthesizers to update their New Wave sound from the 80s.

The Cars have even released a sample from their upcoming track “Free.”  Lollapalooza yet again books an awesome lineup, especially in this historic anniversary year.  If you haven’t already seen The Cars’ new music videos, check all three out below!

The way the Cars combine music, art and video makes them one of the first/best to use media to promote/enhance the message. Always careful not to tell a person what the song is about or what to think, this video shows how great of a band the Cars are and how great of a wordsmith Ocasek is…cue it up!
