Watermelons are blowing up — actually exploding — in eastern China. The cause is not funny, but the video I found of a different melon minefield is.

The problem in China was the overuse of a growth accelerator, forchlorfenuron, that led to fields of watermelons cracking their rinds. Rather than getting them to market early as farmers had hoped, they wound up feeding them to the livestock. The chemical is allowed in the U.S. for use on kiwis and grapes. Watermelons treated with the stuff tend to be fibrous, with white seeds rather than black.

So, not that funny. But thanks to YouTube, here are some other watermelons, blowing up real good …
