Dylan Grassl Intern Bio

dylan 385 Dylan Grassl Intern Biodiary1 Dylan Grassl Intern BioHey gang, Dylan Grassl here, a fresh faced senior on my way to a five year stint at DePaul University. I am majoring in Media/Cinema studies (incredibly vague major) with a minor in Communications/Media (an even vaguer more useless minor). While I originally went there with a focus on film specifically, my interests soon drifted over to radio, and I eventually began to host my own show on Radio DePaulcalled Grassl’s Got Grooves (shameless plug).

As for my musical tastes, as just mentioned I have a borderline obsession for “jam bands” or more specifically, live, improvisational bands. My favorite band of all time is Phish, and I have just clocked in my 30th show as of June 6th, 2011. My love of this music stems from my earliest musical memories with my parents playing The Grateful Dead all the time in the house, and from what I am told I took to them instantly and have been dancing ever since (PS: my following of Phish is most likely directly linked to my dad seeing 66 Dead shows in his time). But lest you think I am a one trick pony, I have a wide variety of other genres that I love, because one cannot live on the jam alone. My other favorite bands include The Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, Ween, Primus, The Beatles, moe. etc. I love funk, soul, and hip hop, fromA Tribe Called Quest, Madlib, J Dilla, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Funkadelic and so forth, along with classic rock, jazz, dance, new wave, punk, alright you get the idea I enjoy music from time to time.
My journey here at XRT all started, again from when I was a wee tyke, and I can remember hearing TerriHemmert on the radio, with her love of the Beatles matching my family’s perfectly and I’ve been hooked ever since. I was incredibly excited to learn that I would now have the opportunity to work side by side with all these creative people who pitch in to help make the best radio station in the country. I am pumped for what I believe is going to be the best summer of my young adult life, thanks XRT and to you reading this, it’s going to be a great summer.
