Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Talk Backstage At Lollapalooza

Photos: The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart… The Pains of Being Pure at Heart may take their name from an unpublished children’s book, but their songs are keen on describing the melancholy and ennui of coming of age. Formed in New York in 2007, the four-piece band combines the dreamy vocals of bands like My Bloody Valentine along with the fuzzy shoegaze guitars of early Smashing Pumpkins into smart indie pop. Their 2009 self-titled debut received critical praise for its sharp songwriting, particularly on songs like “Young Adult Friction”.
Photos: 50 Reasons Why… The band recently released their second album, Belong. The album features the production work of Mark “Flood” Ellis, known for his work with acts like U2, The Killers, and the aforementioned Smashing Pumpkins. The result is a bulkier sound reminiscent of 90′s alternative rock. The band recently appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman to perform Belong cut “Heart in Your Heartbreak”. They will play at Lollapalooza this weekend, along with an XRT aftershow at the Empty Bottle.
