Frontman Mark Foster thought that the name of the band, brought on by a typo, evoked images of nurturing and caring, and Foster the People has certainly lived up to that standard, taking care of the Billboard charts, download sales, and radio airwaves across the country. The band is best known for “Pumped Up Kicks”, a rockin’ fun song from their debut album Torches that reached number one on the Billboard Alternative charts, number 3 on the Billboard Rock charts, and number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not bad for their first album, eh? Well, they’re not done yet.

They’ve also put out a couple of music videos, one for “Pumped Up Kicks”, and also one for their other single, “Helena Beat”, released on June 18th.

Photos: 50 Reasons Why…On tap now for Foster the People is a busy end of summer and an even busier fall. They’ll put on a show on Friday at Lollapalooza, along with an aftershow Friday night at the House of Blues in Chicago. Following that is a European tour, going from August 18th to September 2nd, and gracing stages in Belgium, England, Holland, Portugal, Ireland, and Ibiza. From there they will be continuing their tour in America, with constant dates all across the country until mid-fall. They’ve also been nominated for an MTV Video Music Award. Yeah, their kicks are pumped up, all right!
