It took us twenty years to get to Lollapalooza. Thank you for making...four men's dreams come true.

It was 20 years ago today when Perry Farrell’s brainchild, Lollapalooza, ushered in a new and exciting way to experience the best of modern rock. Now, Lollapalooza has become the best three days of the year for music fans alike. XRT was proud to welcome Lollapalooza back again this summer to Chicago’s backyard, Grant Park. This year, there were 8 stages and over 120 bands at the festival including Coldplay, Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, Muse, Bright Eyes, Arctic Monkeys, Big Audio Dynamite, and many more.

Go big or go home. That was the mantra this past weekend as over a quarter of a million people packed into beautiful Grant Park to take in the 2011 rendition of Lolla. The enormous festival was back in full force at Grant Park this weekend, and Chicago’s Finest Rock station was there for it all: the sweltering heat, the persistent weekend rainstorms, the mud-stained clothing, but most importantly, the vast amount of great music enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of festival-goers. Whether you were out by the stages, relaxing in the XRT Lounge, or streaming online from the XRT live broadcast, we don’t have to tell you what a thrilling weekend it was for Chicago music lovers.

Lollapalooza RevisitedSome Of Our Favorite Photos From…Marty Lennartz and the XRT crew sure stayed busy all weekend at the XRT Backstage Broadcast Bungalow, with each day bringing a steady stream of artists on their way to the stage to chat with XRT. The Bungalow kicked off its interviews on Friday with the always entertaining Perry Farrell, Lollapalooza’s founder.

Perry Farrell Backstage Interview

Perry discussed a wide range of topics, from his experience throwing the first pitch at a White Sox game to the evolution of Lollapalooza. There were plenty of great interviews throughout the weekend, including Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket), Mick Jones and Don Letts (Big Audio Dynamite), Fitz & the Tantrums, OK Go, Ryan Bingham, and many more.
