Talk about highs and lows. Portugal. The Man made their second appearance at Lollapalooza on Sunday and less than 24 hours later, got robbed. Nine guitars, a banjo, seven amps, an electric piano, several keyboards and a variety of drums, pedals, cymbals, speakers and microphones were among the gear stolen from them. It was all in a Red Ford 15 passenger 350 van with a black trailer attached that was also missing. The band tweeted that the van and trailer had been recovered, but were empty.

The band had been calling on Chicagoans and fans alike to help spread the word across facebook and twitter. John Gourley, singer and guitarist, said nearly every bit of money they had earned in the past five years went into getting the gear that was stolen.

The latest from [lastfm]Portugal. The Man[/lastfm] is an album released July 19th of this year, entitled In The Mountain in the Cloud, the first album the band has released under their new label, Atlantic Records. The band started releasing teasers for this album in April of 2011 in the form of 30 second clips of the songs to be on the album via youtube, creating a good deal of hype that the album more than lived up to upon its release. In addition to playing music fests such as Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo this summer, the band also released a short film entitled “Sleep Forever,” via IFC and has recently announced that they are already working on another album with Atlantic.
