1) The Hold Steady – Metro – 8/25 – Not a shocker that this show topped my list, it’s an annual thing now. However, it’s worth noting that the subtraction of Franz Nicolay (keys/vox/mustache) was a big setback for the band. To lose that whole piano breakdown in “Stuck Between Stations” is criminal. Damn right they’ll rise again.
