[photogallerylink id=38480 align=left]There seems to be no end to rumors (or in this case rumours because the story comes from Britain) of reunions by rock bands of the sixties and seventies. Some version of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Led Zeppelin[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Queen[/lastfm] or [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Beatles[/lastfm] is often said to be getting the band back together. The latest speculation centers around [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Pink Floyd[/lastfm]. Could it be true this time? Does it matter to you?

The London Evening Standard is where the story began, this time. The rumor is that [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Roger Waters[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]David Gilmour[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nick Mason[/lastfm] would put a show together much as they did in 2005 at the Live 8 concerts along with the late [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rick Wright[/lastfm]. The reason the story is given any credibility is because of the venue where the (imagined?) concert would take place: The opening ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics. An “insider” reports to the Evening Standard that, “Its long been made clear it would take something very special to get Pink Floyd back together again and it doesn’t get any bigger than the Olympics. Like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sir Paul [McCartney[/lastfm], rumored to play at the opening ceremonies] they have been a major part of the nation’s culture over the past 40 years and it will be very fitting that they’re involved when London is on show to the world. It’s hoped everything can be confirmed in the coming weeks.”

Okay. Maybe. Sounds possible. But…  NME has been contacted by a representative of David Gilmour and is quoted as saying, “David Gilmour can confirm that there is no truth in recent media speculation about Pink Floyd reuniting to perform for the 2012 London Olympics.”

Oh well, it’s not like they would be mounting a tour, playing the Aragon and we’d all be able to get a ticket anyway.

Update: A representative for Gilmour contacted NME to deny that a Pink Floyd reunion was taking place: “David Gilmour can confirm that there is no truth in recent media speculation about Pink Floyd reuniting to perform for the 2012 London Olympics.”
