“
Steve Jobs was a pioneer of digital music ... but when he went home, he listened to vinyl.

Neil Young had been working on a new iPod that would allow “high-resolution audio.” Though Jobs was “a pioneer of digital music”, he told Young that he would go home and listen to vinyl due to the lack of high-quality listening formats for audio files. Having only met a couple times before Jobs death, Young wishes to continue on with this project. However, he is in need of financial support in order to do so.
Young has not hidden his severe dislike for compacted music formats. “What everybody gets [on an MP3] is 5% of what we originally make in the studio,” he said. “We live in the digital age, and unfortunately it’s degrading our music, not improving [it].”
Steve Jobs’ 10…Despite that his new device takes 30 minutes for one download, Young believes in the product’s ability and purpose, brushing this criticism aside with “While you’re sleeping, your device is working for you.”
Young also admits that the world of music has drastically changed. “Piracy is the new radio; it’s how music gets around,” he said. But, he still believes in the future for record companies. “What I like about record companies is they nurture an artist, they keep encouraging artists to grow. That doesn’t exist on iTunes. That doesn’t exist on Amazon.” Perhaps through Young and Jobs project, should it be completed, they can create the same musical encouragements for artists around the world.
