Although he was primarily known for his rugged portrayal of characters in the old west (especially Nick Barkley on The Big Valley), Peter Breck had a long and varied career that included guest and starring roles on television, in motion pictures and on the stage. One of his finest and most convincing performances was as an investigating senator in the 1963 episode of the Outer Limits known as O.B.I.T. Although this teleplay has alien monsters and futuristic technology, its basic message concerning the perverse desire of people to eavesdrop on one another is timeless. Breck’s blustery and imperious demeanor crumbles as he opens a crack into the evil side of humanity; a side that it embraces and is repulsed by simultaneously. One of television’s finest hours. Peter Breck was 82.
