After Valentine’s Day, we face the aftermath of love. What do we do as passion cools and a very unromantic workday looms? Music, as always, has charms to soothe the savage breast (not that kind!). Here’s some tunes that remind us how painful the residue of amour can be:

  1. Love Hangover” by Diana Ross. Supposedly recorded under a strobe light to simulate the disco experience, it generated plenty of headaches when it went to number one in 1976.

  3. “Love Stinks” by the J. Geils Band. So does this song, although Adam Sandler’s version in the Wedding Singer is pretty terrific. Especially the punch at the end.

  5. Double Shot (Of My Baby’s Love) by the Swingin” Medallions. A bawdy romp that radio stations banned but it still went top twenty.

  7. Good Lovin’ Gone Bad” by Bad Company. One of three ‘bad’  songs from Paul Rodgers and Co. (not counting anything after 1982). Keep hot love hot and cold love er, hot, too.

  9. Can’t Let Go” by Lucinda Williams. Like being in love with a zombie. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

  11. Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division. You could kind of see this coming.

  13. Will You  Love Me Tomorrow” by the Shirelles. An important prenup question, written by Carole King. The subject of an answer song by Tony Orlando!
