Shemekia Copeland

[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Shemekia Copeland[/lastfm], daughter of Blues great [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Johnny Copeland[/lastfm], began to perform when she was just a kid and released her first album while she was still in her teens. She was a Blues princess. At last year’s Chicago Blues Festival she was crowned Queen of the Blues. (Read about that HERE) Last month she performed at the White House and sang “Sweet Home Chicago” with President Obama.  This weekend she plays for you at a beautiful club in Evanston.

Shemekia and Tom at Blues Fest

Shemekia Copeland was part of the Blues supergroup that performed as part of a Black History Month celebration a couple of weeks ago at the White House. At one point, with B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, Warren Haynes, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, Buddy Guy and others on stage, President Obama sang a few lines of the song, “Sweet Home Chicago.” Shemekia helped wrap up the song from there. All of this really has nothing to do with her performances which are always amazing. What a voice! Great band. And S.P.A.C.E. in Evanston is one of the best venues in this town full of great venues.

Hope to see you there Saturday night.

p.s. S.P.A.C.E. has a great blues show tonight, Friday, also: Magic Slim and the Teardrops.
