Lurrie Bell at Rosa's

Our “Weekend Live Blues Pick” this weekend is another example of a perfect pairing of great Chicago Blues at a great, neighborhood Chicago Blues bar.

Rosa’s bills itself as “Chicago’s Friendliest Blues Lounge.” The only reason to dispute that title would be because Chicago has a lot of very friendly blues lounges, but it’s true that none are any friendlier. Rosa’s is a blues club built and operated by blues lovers for blues lovers. It’s the kind of club where the number of blues players in the audience often out numbers the number on stage. The kind of place were you are likely to see outstanding musicians come off the floor and join the band for a little jamming, especially with an act like Lurrie Bell. Lurrie is one of the best guitar players in town, a very expressive vocalist and a talented songwriter, but he is also one of the most beloved players on the blues scene. See what I mean tonight, Friday, at 3420 W. Armitage. Street parking is easy to find and the cover is easy to take.

Eric "Guitar" Davis

And while we’re at Rosa’s, consider going back on Saturday night for up and coming bluesman, Eric “guitar” Davis. He punches out some great, original blues with a band that includes keys and a couple of horns.
