Foster The People & The Kooks Cover Alabama Shakes’ “Hold On” [First Listen]

Los Angeles’ Foster the People, pulling the heart strings of fans with their hit songs and awesomely creepy videos, gave their London audience at o2 Brixton Academy some perspective on their rapidly blossoming career.

“A year ago, we were playing the Hoxton Bar and Grill, which was pretty good, and now we’re here,” confessed frontman Mark Foster to the audience. “I got to take a moment to take it all in.” The band later brought on Luke Pritchard of Brighton-based band the Kooks to do a cover of a band anticipated as the hot up-and-comers of 2012–Alabama Shakes.

A reviewer from NME reports that the Foster the People frontman, who did the lead vocals on the Alabama Shakes’ track “Hold On,” told the audience:

“Seeing as though it’s our last night, we’re going to do something tonight; we’re going to do a cover. Welcome onstage Luke Pritchard.”

The Kooks frontman then played guitar and supplied backing vocals on the buzzing new track.

Rounding out their British experience, Foster the People tweeted a day or two before their Brixton show that they were going to see New Order in Manchester.
