Let’s take a look at this week’s albums, reissues and other musical goodies from classic artists making musical waves yet again.

Spotlight Release of the Week: Call him what you will — the quiet Beatle, the Dark Horse or Hari Georgeson — but the perpetually misunderstood George Harrison made a complex subject for Martin Scorsese. The superstar director’s lengthy documentary on Harrison, Living In The Material World, made its premiere in two parts last October on HBO to boatloads of acclaim, much to the dismay to basic cable subscribers. Luckily, the rock doc – which includes interviews with Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and many more of Harrison’s peers and loved ones – makes its DVD debut today.

The DVD release includes bonus audio and video features, including a great scene involving a lost “Here Comes the Sun” guitar solo. Also out today is a 10-track CD of previously unreleased Harrison solo material, titled Early Takes Volume I. The highlights from it include demos of the Beatles guitarist’s biggest solo hits, including “My Sweet Lord” and “All Things Must Pass.” Watch a trailer from George Harrison: Living In The Material World below.

From one British Invasion band with a creature-themed name to another, The Animals release a greatest hits this week. Titled The Very Best of the Animals, the compilation highlights the hits from Eric Burdon’s influential though oft-overlooked group, including “House Of The Rising Sun” and Springsteen favorite “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place.”

Keeping with last week’s trend, there are more reissues from The Monkees out this week. The band’s 1968 album The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees, which features hits like “Daydream Believer,” gets yet another reissue from Rhino.

And finally, U.K. guitar god and former Yardbird Jeff Beck gets an unofficial biography – titled Hot Wired Guitar – from British music journalist Martin Power.
