The superhero for the common man, crusader of social injustice, the Nightwatchman is more than just a man armed with a guitar. It’s Tom Morello, armed with a legion of believers willing to start a revolution.

Recently, Morello has led peaceful yet meaningful sing-a-longs at South By Southwest, Occupy L.A. and Occupy Wall Street.

His latest powerful single gets some help from Ben Harper, no stranger to thought provoking lyrics. “Save the Hammer for the Man,” is the latest track from World Wide Rebel Songs, his fourth album as the Nightwatchman.

Unlike his three previous acoustic only Nightwatchman albums, Morello decided to plug his guitar in for this one. In an interview, the singer/guitarist says there has traditionally been a “distinct firewall between my acoustic solo work at the Nightwatchman and my electric guitar playing in Rage Against The Machine.” Morello continues, “Now that I’m on the fourth Nightwatchman record, now I’ve made as many Nightwatchman records as I have Rage Against The Machine records, more Nightwatchman than Audioslave records, I feel comfortable in my own skin and have built a bridge between my work as an electric guitar player, my work as a political folk-singing troubadour.”

The video is a collage of video shot at various public rallies and sing-a-longs interspersed with his duet with Ben Harper.

“I’ve sinned and I have suffered and it feels good in my hands, save the hammer for the man.”
