Don’t be fooled by the name, California Wives are all about Chicago. After a September show at Lincoln Hall that had Jason Thomas raving to everyone at XRT about the group, California Wives made their XRT debut last weekend on Local Anesthetic with Richard Milne.

The group hails from Chicago and has been playing together since 2009; however their debut album Art History was released this past September. With performances at Lincoln Hall, the Metro, North Coast Music Festival, the Taste of Chicago, and Wicker Park Fest under their belt, the group has become a staple of the Chicago music scene about to burst onto the national radar.

The band released a music video for their song “Twenty Three” that contains old footage of buildings and events from Chicago. Ranging from shots of Lake Michigan, burlesque theatrical performances, and a football game with the players wearing old leather helmets, the video provides a visual representation of old time Chicago.

California Wives debut album Art History is available now via Vagrant Records. The record was produced by Claudius Mittendorf (Interpol, Neon Indian, Wild Nothing) and has been cited as a favorite album of Joy Division/New Order’s Peter Hook.
