Although we have plenty of fresh water here in the Midwest (often in frozen form for much of the year sadly), we still need to conserve and use it wisely even when we’re singing in the shower. After all, we don’t want to end up like London where not only do they have to tap the Thames for bathing, but siphon off as little of it as possible while they lather up.

Here are some quick sub-two minute tracks that’ll get you squeaky clean and supply a good vocal cord workout at the same time:

  1. “Here Comes the Weekend” by Dave Edmunds. At 1:15, it’s even shorter than the weekend.
  2. “Mystery Dance” by Elvis Costello. 1:35. A Shakespeare update at light speed.
  3. “Franks Wild Years” by Tom Waits. 1:50. A grim but humorous tale of arson best quenched by a brisk stream.
  4. “Not Fade Away” by the Rolling Stones. 1:48. Even shorter than Buddy Holly’s version.
  5. “There’s a Doctor” by the Who. 0:24. A teeny, tiny Tommy tune.
  6. “Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment” by the Ramones. 1:40.  A perfect number for a cold shower from the rock masters of economy.
  7. “Her Majesty” by the Beatles. 0:23. Just enough time to wash the vital areas.
  8. “All Mod Cons” by the Jam. 1:15. Intense scrubbing for extra grime.
  9. “Embryonic Journey” by Jefferson Airplane. 1:51. OK, it’s an instrumental, just hum or make up words like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Van Morrison[/lastfm].
  10. “There’s a Riot Going On” by Sly and the Family Stone. 0:00. Best used with a neutrino shower, you’re clean when you walk in!
