2013, here we come!  The first weekend of ’13 has a few offerings that are definitely worth your time.  Buddy Guy’s annual residency at his own place in the south loop begins, a lost spaghetti western with a familiar name will entertain at the Music Box and Otis Clay has a CD release show happening just up the road in Evanston.  Let’s get to it…

Buddy Guy @ Buddy Guy’s Legends, Thu-Sun, 1/3-1/6

You know the drill by now.  Buddy does 4 consecutive weeks of Thu-Sun shows at a time of year when the rest of the town is pretty much dead.  Buddy’s acts as a sort of January oasis here in Chicago and what usually happens is that the Saturday shows sell out first, followed by the Friday shows, but tickets for the Thursday and Sunday shows can usually be had.  If you haven’t yet seen a January Buddy show, the guy was just honored by the POTUSA, for crying out loud!  He always wears some kickass suits, and those hats are pretty awesome too…  Tix here.

Django @ Music Box Theatre Midnight Movies, Fri-Sat, 1/5-1/6

Yeah, there’s “Django Unchained” that’s in theaters now, and you also have Scottish band Django Django making some noise with their debut album, but this Django is a spaghetti western that looks not quite as bloody as Tarantino’s new flick, but Django kills about 165 dudes in the trailer with a lightning quick draw, so you won’t be let down if you’re looking for a massive body count.  Everyone’s going to see “Unchained,” but you and a few others will always be able to one-up them when you say that you’ve seen the spaghetti western “Django,” and seeing it at midnight @ the Music Box only adds to the awesomeness.  You gotta love that place.  Tix here.

Otis Clay @ SPACE, Saturday, 1/5

Legendary blues/soul/R&B man, Otis Clay, will be appearing in Evanston for not just any show, but a CD release show for “Truth Is.”  Otis has done a lot to help Chicago residents on the west and south sides of the city, which you can read about here, and tickets for the show can be found here.
