It might be hard to believe but at one time Coldplay performed small gigs in odd places for little to no pay. Like all rock bands, the group had to hone their chops before hitting the big stage.

Video of Coldplay’s first performance has surfaced containing a few snippets from the show along with the band talking about the experience. The show took place exactly 15 years ago to the day at the Laurel Tree in Camden. The advertised price for the show was four British Pounds which converts to $6.41, not a bad deal.

Whether it was a sign of youth or inexperience, the band didn’t have a name for themselves prior to the show. In a last minute effort they settled on the name Starfish. Guitarist Jonny Buckland was satisfied with the performance, however he notes the band played one song twice during their set.

In commemoration of Coldplay’s 15th anniversary, watch footage from their very first gig below. Check out other rare notes and footage from the band’s 15 years here.
