Take a deep breath. Muddy Waters’ onetime home is not going to be torn down.

The latest chapter in this story began about a week ago when it appeared that a demolition order was being processed. The house at 4339 S. Lake Park Ave. was Muddy’s home for twenty years. Turns out that when the building was being inspected earlier this year it was discovered to be vacant and open at that time. We now hear from the Department of Buildings that they “do not intend to demolish this building.”  The recent inspection of the building “warranted enforcement on the demolition court call where vacant building cases are heard.”

The owner has secured the property and has expressed her interest/intent to bring property into compliance with the building code.

The city once again reiterated that the city does not intend to seek an order of demolition. Once there is a court date we will pass that information along for the anyone who is interested in following the case.
