Ever wonder how The Postal Service came to be?

If you were to believe the video posted on Funny Or Die, founding member Jimmy Tamborello held an audition to staff the electropop act back in 2002, bringing in some of the most unlikely candidates for the position. In the video directed by Tom Scharpling, Tamborello and a Sub Pop Records representative sit through hilarious auditions from a wide range of musicians/comedians including Tom Delonge of Blink 182, former Guns N Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Moby, and Weird Al Yankovic. Ben Gibbard finally steps up and the rest is history.

While the group’s formation may not have happened in that fashion, one truth to take away from the video is that The Postal Service’s debut album Give Up is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with the release of a special edition of the album featuring new music from the group. The reissue of Give Up will be available on April 9th.
