Sit Beside Dawes During Their Live From Studio X Performance [Watch]

Every office should start the week like this. One of our favorite L.A. bands, Dawes, rolled in to the XRT Studio for a super-intimate Monday morning performance, Live from Studio X. Taylor, and bandmates, Griffin and Tay have been regulars to WXRT for a couple years now.

After performing two songs from their latest album, Stories Don’t End, Taylor dished on their Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles sound saying, “It’s an interesting thing, and I feel at this point Laurel Canyon is more of an abstraction (in a cool way) than it is a place where music is getting made or where musicians live.”

With that said, it is their unique harmony that distinguishes Dawes from any other group, “…that Laurel Cannon sound that people have given to us is pretty cool…now awful sudden we are distinguished by this cool sound.”

Dawes – “Most People”

It is not only their music that brings joy to people’s worlds; it is their genuineness for helping other people out, that truly brings attention to this California band.

Dawes, approached by the charity Nothing but Nets, traveled to Africa to help individuals and families fight against Malaria. “It was a profound experience going over there and very eye opening to see how these people live, not only having to do with malaria, but also having to do with clean water issues, food, HIV, etc.”

By traveling to Africa to help with the Fight Against Malaria charity, it proved to the band, “…how simple and easy it could be to save a life.”

Dawes – “If I Wanted Someone”

Regarding the state of the industry, Taylor mentioned that, “[…over 50 percent of our sales are physical. For us, people who buy our records still like to own their own copy.” It is clear Dawes loves what they do, and it shows. Last night they were live performing a FREE show at Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. “The reason why we do this is for every little aspect of it: getting to play these shows, getting to meet these fans, and just getting to make the music and records we make,” said Taylor.

Speaking of physical albums… you can purchase Stories Don’t End (and we suggest that you do) thru Amazon. It’s also available on iTunes.
