This week our Artist Of The Week was Lonnie Brooks. We’re celebrating a bit in advance of his upcoming 80th birthday! Lonnie was born Lee Baker, Jr. on December 18, 1933 in Dubuisson, Louisiana. Toast Lonnie’s birthday with an all-star cast of blues greats: Lonnie Brooks 80th Birthday Bash, Saturday, December 21, 8pm. Celebrate & party with Lonnie, his two sons Ronnie Baker Brooks and Wayne Baker Brooks, and very special guests Dan Aykroyd, Big Head Todd, Jimmy Vivino, Otis Clay, Eddy Clearwater, Jimmy Johnson, Billy Branch, Sugar Blue, Otis Taylor, Lil’ Ed and more for his 80th birthday bash at the House of Blues Chicago. For updated info check Visit the Blues Breakers page at The accompanying photo was taken when we announced on stage at the Chicago Blues Festival that by mayoral declaration, June 12, 2011, was Lonnie Brooks Day in Chicago. JUNIOR WELLS –  BROKE AND HUNGRY  Junior was born 79 years ago on December 9 in Memphis. He died on January 15, 1998 in Chicago. This was recorded live in Chicago in November of 1996 and released on Telarc Records as Live At Buddy Guy’s Legends in 1997.
