XRT’s Rock & Roll Playlist Pairing For The Dunkin’ Donuts Lover In Your Life

Here at XRT there’s nothing we crave more than music, but sometimes we need to fill up on some of these sweet beauties. (Just ask our morning man!) Forget the coffee, doughnuts are best paired with music. Don’t believe us?

Look below for a dozen tunes to spin while you dig into some of the more popular doughnut selections around this town.

…make that a baker’s dozen.

1) Apple Crumb Doughnut: The Black Keys, “Gold On The Ceiling”
This apple crazed doughnut is like a cross between coffee cake, danish and fried pie all in one. Along with the apple filling, the doughnut has a mesmerizing golden apple crumb on top. It’s a no-brainer that this doughnut is one of the top picks in the box of dozen. Everyone is looking to get their “Gold On The Ceiling”.

2) Cinnamon Cake Munchkins: Neil Young, “Cinnamon Girl”
Neil Young wrote this song for a woman he saw playing finger cymbals. He was infatuated with her and and felt a sense of comfort around her. Cinnamon can bring on a feeling of strong desire and comfort that brings joy and happiness. These munchkins have the similar effect on us.

3) French Cruller Doughnut: Phoenix, “Summer Days”
This pastry is often fried, shaped with twists and turns. Often fried on a summer day, Thomas Mars sings of driving around, ready to unwind after facing the twists and turns that life may bring us.

4) Blueberry Cake Doughnut: New Order, “Blue Monday”
“How does it feel/ To Treat me like you do” is the question we have for Mondays. For a day we try to take things slow, the simple choice of the blueberry cake doughnut offers an easy approach to start off the day.

5) Lemon Filled Doughnut: Led Zeppelin, “The Lemon Song”
The lines “I should have quit you, baby, such a long time ago” describes this guilty please. It’s so good, yet so bad. There is a stubborn love that consumes us with this delicacy. We just can’t stay away for too long.

6) Pumpkin Glazed Doughnut: The Smashing Pumpkins, “Perfect”
You know when you have a taste for something you haven’t had in awhile? You fulfill that need and its just perfect? At the right time and place; this song and doughnut has the power to do that. An unexpected delight.

7) Cupid’s Choice Doughnut: Sam Cook, “Cupid”
Sam Cooke nails it every time. The love songs he creates are full of soul and passion. Cupid is known to find our soul-mates. Even if it is in the form of a donut.

8) Strawberry Glazed Doughnut: The Beatles, “Strawberry Fields Forever”
Famously influenced from a memory of John Lennon’s childhood in a suburb of Liverpool, “Strawberry Fields Forever” ties into this doughnut by reminding us of our times as children. The doughnut is such a nostalgic food item, it almost puts us in a “hazy, impressionistic dreamworld” like the song does.

9) Jelly Filled Doughnut: The Police, “Wrapped Around Your Finger”
The jelly filled doughnut and policemen go hand in hand. It seems like whenever you think of a cop eating a donut, it has to be a jelly filled one. This classic by The Police sums up the relationship between the jelly filled doughnut (who has the upper hand) and policemen.

10) Bow Tie Doughnut: Frank Sinatra, “Fly Me to The Moon”
“Old Blue Eyes” wore his bow ties proudly throughout his career and was an essential to his flawless presence of class and style. The bow tie is a timeless, with a classic look and taste. If one person is to represent this pastry, it’s Frank Sinatra.

11) Boston Creme Doughnut: The Pixies, “Here Comes Your Man”
“There is a wait so long (so long, so long)”. You’re in line waiting for your turn to ask for that one special doughnut. Nervous that it might be too late as you inch closer and closer to the cash register. The line moves and finally, “Here Comes Your Man”, ready to take your order and hand you one of the last Boston Cremes left. Ah, relief.

12) Sugar Raised Doughnut: Amos Lee, “Sweet Pea”
Does this doughnut ever get old? I don’t think so. “You’re the only reason, I keep on coming home”. The doughnut will forever be a favorite among doughnut eaters. Sometimes it just catches our eye and we can’t help to indulge in it’s sweetness.

13) Chocolate Glazed Cake Doughnut: Cake, “Never There”
After 9 A.M., this gem is almost “Never There”. As Cake describes the need of love and tenderness from their significant other, the same is needed from this glorious doughnut.
