Thoroughly enjoyable conversation with the gents in Spare Parts last night. How did I not know they were SIU grads before the interview? Upon finding that out, I knew we’d get along just fine. Spare Parts kind of sit in a funny place. Not quite full blown jazz, they straddle a number of genres including dance, jam and funky soul. We discussed all that last night along with touching upon the band’s history and their individual backgrounds, day jobs, keyboard tones, steady local gigs and out of town gigs, working with engineer Vijay Tellis-Nayak and hitting the i-Tunes jazz chart with the release of Spare Parts (Ropeadope). See Spare Parts at the Cubby Bear on February 27 and hear their interview with yours truly on the link below. Thanks for listening.
