Thanksgiving is so close we can almost taste it (literally).  And sure, there are probably some of us out there who look forward to this holiday because of the time we get to spend with our families.  But, there is also a great majority of us out there who look forward to this holiday all week long for another reason…the food.

Come Thursday, many people will feast in a way that will make you think that they haven’t eaten in weeks.  Their plan will consist of indulging in all of the turkey and mashed potatoes their body can handle, then pushing the stomach a little bit further by eating the traditional dessert—pie.

A great Thanksgiving meal is never complete without pie, and artists appear to feel the same way.  Decades of music show that pie seems to be a central theme of many songs.  So, on this Thanksgiving Day, enjoy ten of the best songs about your favorite pies.

“Pecan Pie”—Golden Smog

A classic pie for this holiday and a beautiful song sung by Jeff Tweedy to go with it.  “Just a piece of pecan pie…and you, that’s all I want.”

“Dragonfly Pie”—Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks

Not sure about you, but this is a pie I have never heard of.  Don’t disregard, however, because if it’s anything like the song, it’s got to be good.

“Flaming Pie”—Paul McCartney

You may not be the man on the flaming pie, but you can still enjoy this rocking tune from McCartney.

“Sweet Potato Pie”—James Taylor

Join James Taylor on cloud nine this Thanksgiving, and get yourself a slice of sweet potato pie.  You might end up feeling as happy as this song sounds.

“Lemon Pie”—The Strawbs

Get trapped in the lemon power of the Strawbs with this sweet song.  Even if you’re not a fan of lemon pie, you’ll be a fan of this tune.

“Where’s My Apple Pie?”—Joan Baez

This may not be a very happy song, but it’s certainly a powerful and incredibly well-written one.  Sing along with the master wordsmith, Joan Baez.

“Jambalaya on the Bayou”—John Fogerty

Though originally written by Hank Williams, Fogerty does this song incredible justice.  Granted, you may not be having jambalaya, crawfish pie, and file gumbo this Thanksgiving, but there’s always a chance someone is, right?

“I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)”—Four Tops

Such a great love song, but you might find yourself saying, “I love you and nobody else,” to that slice of pie instead of your true honey bunch.

“American Pie”—Don McLean

What kind of pie list would this be if Don McLean’s wasn’t on here?  Any day is a good day to listen to “American Pie”, but you should treat yourself to this live version on your Thanksgiving Day.

“Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie”—Jay & The Techniques

This song alone might cover all of your favorite pies.  Perhaps one of the most famous pop hits from the 1960s, this tune by Jay & the Techniques will make you feel good about eating all that pie.
