I’ve really been enjoying the new music of the year so far. There seems to be a bunch of quirky pop bands emerging in Chicago and I’ll be playing a number of them this week. A few weeks back, our first show of new Chicago music for 2015 was launched with a spin from Dream Version. We’ll hear another track from them this week. ChooChoo are also kinda cool and I’ll play a track from their All Abroad release. Also of interest are the new sets from Low Swans and Dirty Creeps. The latter features the strong vocals of Dana Lynn, who I’ve been a fan of for a number of years. Gotta say, tho, she sounds even better when pushed by her bandmates in the Creeps. They can play. Hey, I’ll also be spinning this new Bama Lamas record, Going Up, which locks in to some serious retro grooves or, what they describe as, “Down & dirty hip-shakin old school Rock & Roll / R&B. Good and greasy the way it was meant to be played!” I dig the truth in packaging. So rare in the music business. I’ve got a few other things lined up but right now I’ve got to go. It’s Friday morning and I’ve got more music to listen to. What a life! Join me, Richard Milne, for a boatload of new Chicago music on this week’s Local Anesthetic, Sunday night at 7:30 here on XRT.
