I have a healthy list of bands I want to see this year. The obvious aside (Radiohead, Jane’s Addiction and LCD Soundsystem), the three bands I want to encourage our listeners to check out are:

The Arcs Straight up old school Ohio rock that you heard coming from the neighbors garage after dinner early evening or weekends. Scorching guitar solos and well written songs performed by a band of stellar musicians put together by Dan Auerbach. Just look up Richard Swift and go from there. They give a wildly entertaining stage performance with a great deal of energy. If the show is anything like their recent performance at the XRT event at The Vic, we are in for a sweet treat. This bands debut record “Yours Dreamily” is well titled. Like the man says “Stay in my Corner” babe.

Leon Bridges seems fond of Chicago, he’s even performed at the famous jazz club The Green Mill. I caught him at the WXRT StudioX event where he gave an open hearted, informative interview to Marty Lennartz. They also played at a sold out XRT show at The Chicago Theater that same night, which was quite suiting of the bands performance and style. Bridges came out of the gates with the sexy debut soul record titled “Coming Home”. His throwback sound, dance moves and attire makes it seem like he’s been to Maxine Powell’s charm school with the rest of the Motown greats. Don’t be surprised if you hear a cover of “These Arms of Mine”. Check out his videos for “Smooth Sailing” and “The River” you’ll end up swayin’ in the front row with me.

AutoLux is LA’s dreamy darling trio recently signed to Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records. I’m hoping they sound live like they do on the new record due out April 1st no joke.

Miike Snow, a band the way from Stockholm Sweden is a trio of musicans/producers that release a record every few years. It’s the kind music that encourages one to ask with pen and paper in hand “who is this band?” Their third album “iii” was just released in early March, 2016.
