Ellie Rowsell looks a little like Scarlet Johansen’s kid sister. Her voice has such a pretty quality until she ramps it into a howl, which she does to augment the power of the power quad, Wolf Alice. Hearing them now, it is hard to believe that lead singer and guitarist Ellie and fidgety guitar whiz Joff Oddie began as an acoustic duo because their dynamic sound now leans heavily towards heavy.

My mission to see them live over the last year had been thwarted a couple of times so their appearance at Lollapalooza Friday afternoon was priority one. Moaning Lisa Smile is a song I’ve listened to over and over again with a thirst that cannot be quenched. Following the release of their debut album in 2015, NME chose them as the year’s best live rock band. During the live performance of Moaning Lisa Smile, Ellie fell backwards into the crowd and surfed until she was virtually on top of me. Yes, a memorable moment from Lollapalooza 2016 from a massively talented rock band.
