Before we start, just know that I’m one of those people that kinda liked Vinyl. I should also mention the fact that I was into Season 2 of True Detective, and I’m being honest when I say that I don’t take these positions for the sake of being a contrarian, it’s just that after a long week of work and chasing a toddler around I’m pretty stoked when I actually have an hour to sit down and veg out. I look forward to that one hour a week of relaxation and turning my brain on auto pilot, so I’m probably more receptive than most viewers. I’m also a big Scorsese fan, and since Vinyl is no more let’s have a look at what’s next from the legendary filmmaker.

Silence is the name of his next film and according to The Playlist, “the drama is set in the 17th century and follows a pair of Jesuit priests who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and spread the gospel of Christianity.” Oh, and it’s 195 minutes. Scorsese’s flicks are long, we all know this, but there’s talk of this one being perhaps a bit too long for the studio’s liking. There were rumors of an Oscar-season release (November) earlier this year, but the latest news is that there is no release date. We’re looking for a nice bounce back from Marty following the demise of Vinyl, so hopefully any issues with Silence are ironed out, it gets a release date and sweeps the Oscars.
