Chuck Berry is a Mount-Rushmore-of-rock-n-roll caliber name, so it’s always funny to hear Bruce Springsteen share the story of his first experience with his fellow R&R hall-of-famer. Chuck was famous for showing up minutes before a gig to perform with a backing band that the venue or the promoter would provide. There are countless stories of Chuck not telling the band which songs they were going to perform and just hitting the stage, ripping into songs and expecting the band to keep up and follow right along. And what do you know? The :37 clip above seems to corroborate the tales of Chuck being famously tough to work alongside. A bunch of younger kids that are nervous as hell to be meeting one of their idols, and then they have to perform a set while virtually blindfolded? Those guys earned their money, for sure…
