All is right in the Cubs universe with the season’s dog days winding up and the September call ups near. They have the best record in baseball, are a season-high 36 games over .500 with a league-leading 14 game gap between themselves and the distant-second place Cardinals. They’ve also inspired our own Lin Brehmer to update the Tinkers to Evers to Chance poem to fit this new golden modern era:

Javier Baez is playing lights out in the infield, and Addison Russell has somehow managed to grow his already promising rookie season into something almost otherworldly in its simplicity. Javy Baez is providing maybe the only worry, if one stretches far enough for it: his flashy defense might prove difficult for him on routine grounders that could potentially bore him to death. What a good problem to have.

Len Kasper joins Lin Brehmer on the XRT Morning Show at 8:30am Mondays & Fridays as this historic Cubs season wends its way through the dog days of summer. Len & Lin: never letting the pressure exceed the pleasure, on 93XRT.
