So what does Chrissie Hynde do on her birthday?
How ‘bout a full day of press with her final interview of the day starting at 11:30P London time. That’s when I had a chance to chat with her on the phone and I asked her why she was working on her birthday.
In true Chrissie style she said, “I don’t care. I’m not doing anything anyway”. Not quite true.
Yesterday saw the surprise release of a new single, “Holy Commotion”, the first song from the forthcoming Pretenders album, Alone, produced by Dan Auerbach.
It’s the long awaited teaming of two generations of Akron rockers, although Chrissie says Dan’s the adult and she’s the teenager.
“Alone” was recorded at Dan’s Nashville Easy Eye Studio and features some of Music City’s top session players, a couple members of The Arcs and the legendary “Rebel Rouser” himself, Duane Eddy.
The record gets released October 21 followed by a tour with Stevie Nicks that comes to United Center December 3rd.
Here’s my full conversation with The Birthday Girl herself.
