By Ryan Arnold

Johnny Cash died on this day in 2003. I don’t remember what I was doing, though I was likely at the radio station I worked at in Madison. I likely walked into my Program Director’s office and shut the door. We likely sat in silence for a little bit (beneath his and my often feigned stoicism, we are both the sentimental type) and then gave each other unspoken permission to cry. But just a little. I likely went into my office and shut the door, put on American IV: The Man Comes Around, and started to bawl.

Sitting along the Irish Sea the last few days of my visit back to Youghal, I present to you 5 songs recorded by John R. Cash. He mightn’t have written all of them, though he certainly made all of them his own. These are 5 of my favorites and I’d like to hear yours. Email or connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Your pal,
-Ryan A.
