What a pleasant surprise. Cloud Nothings have shared new music this week ahead of the release of their fifth album, Life Without Sound. We heard from Cloud Nothings last year in the form of a nice collaborative record with Wavves, but LWS will be their first proper LP since 2014. The first track we get to sink our, um, ears into is “Modern Act,” a song that definitely passes the “car test.” What’s that, exactly? Let Dylan Baldi explain… “A thing I like to do with all of my records is drive around with them,” the 25-year-old Cloud Nothings frontman says. “In high school, I would listen to music for hours like that: just driving through the suburbs of Cleveland. And if it sounds good to me in that context and I can think of high school me listening to it and saying, ‘That’s okay,’ I feel good about the record. This is the one that’s felt best.”
